Ingredients and benefits

What are the different ingredients and where do they originate from?

Sodium chloride (NaCl)

Sodium chloride (NaCl) is the "common salt" that everyone uses in the kitchen. Usually, it is obtained from natural rock salt deposits or from sea water. Sodium chloride has a common salty taste and functionality.

Potassium chloride (KCl)

Potassium chloride (KCl) is the natural counterpart of sodium chloride. The ratio of sodium and potassium intake is important. Potassium can reduce blood pressure and bring benefits to bone mineral density, but needs to be handled with care for patients with kidney dysfunction. Pure potassium chloride has a metallic taste.

Sodium gluconate

Gluconic acid also occurs naturally in the human body and fermented foods like e.g. Kombucha. Interestingly, sodium gluconate can mask off-tastes by blocking receptors on the tongue, which helps masking the bitter taste of potassium chloride in the salt blend.

Sodium gluconate is the salt of gluconic acid, which is produced by fermentation of glucose syrup and subsequent neutralisation.

Sub4Salt | Sea Salt/Sub4Salt | Rock Salt

sub4salt® N1000 is our standard type which allows a sodium reduction of 35%. It contains sodium chloride from rock salt, potassium chloride and sodium gluconate. This salt replacement is universally applicable and available in two granulations, N1000 and F3000 which is the finer grade.
sub4salt® sea salt has the same granulation as sub4salt® N1000. In this grade we use sodium chloride from sea salt origin.
